Same-sex partners can now have hospital visitation rights

Written By: jandi on April 18, 2010 No Comment

Good news to the gay and lesbian community. Same-sex couples can now have hospital visitation rights in the United States. The mandate extends visitation rights to the partners of gay men and lesbians, which is a very welcoming move to those who have been denied hospital visitation rights before. It is a concrete step towards equality for gays and lesbians. The patients’ choice as to who will make critical health-care decision for them will now be respected. In other words, there will no longer be discrimination in hospital visitation.

Hopefully, this new development, will not spark any conflict within the patients’ family, the hospital staff and the same-sex partners over a matter of life and death decision for the patient.
